Coming to school, people make sure to grab their bag and homework, but now people never seem to forget the very popular accessory, the Stanley cup.
According to the New York Times Stanley cup sales have gone up by 275 percent from 2020 to 2021. The cup is still a trend in 2023. Stanley cups have not only taken the world by storm, but as well as the high school.
Being a big trend, one reason the cup was purchased was due to the status the cups have. Junior Skylar Dixon said that the reason she got the cup was because everyone else had it. Similarly, sophomore Addison Davis said her reason for getting it was because it was “very trendy.”
“I always seem to drink more water with my Stanley.” “I’ve been trying to drink more water to stay healthier,” freshman Hailey Rogers said.
The cup is also given many compliments from various other students. Senior Carrington Broderick says she likes it for the way it fits in her car’s cup holder. However, freshman Grayson Turner says the cup does not fit in a lot of things. He explains how the cup doesn’t fit in some backpacks or some car cup holders. Bulky is another word Turner uses to describe the Stanley cup.
Stanley’s website claims that the cup can hold ice for two days. As well as given compliments about their ability to really keep drinks cold and hold ice, the cups have also had some negative reviews. Dixon talks about how the cup can be heavy at times. Rogers and Turner say that the cup leaks. Rogers describes the cups as easy to knock over which leads to them spilling. “If it gets turned over it will leak,” Turner said.
Another common drawback for the cups is the price. The price range for the cup goes from $40 to $90. Junior Shelby Riddle said she was interested in buying the cup, but ended up not due to the price. Riddle describes herself as cheap and not willing to buy the cup because of the price.
Though there are mixed opinions on the Stanley cup, it is without a doubt a very popular accessory this year, especially at George County High School.
