Through the process of designing and distributing T-shirts, business class teacher Tina Mcdoniel hopes to give her students an interactive experience.
The class, focused on teaching the students the ways of working and financing, recently added the T-shirt business with the purpose of providing the clubs and organizations with shirts, sweatshirts, and apparel, as well as providing the students with an experience that gives them more insight on what an actual business is like.
“I just wanted the opportunity to give the kids a little more hands-on experience.” Mcdoniel said.
The process behind the shirts involves a multitude of activities, including the designing of the shirts and the use of technology, as well as the economical side of things.
“I like that she gives us the freedom to pick what we want to do with our shirts.” freshman Lily Smathers said. “We basically get to do whatever we want and learn about selling and all that stuff.”
The students are broken into groups and given a choice as to what clubs and organizations to cover, and from there they design, create, and distribute the shirts.
“We learn how to make a profit, and decide the price, where to sell it, just everything like that.” sophomore Laura Cunningham said.
A lot has been achieved so far, with their first order involving 80 shirts, and a lot more in the process. Despite good fortune overall, the process is not without challenges. Much is still to be learned, as this is something completely new to the class and the school.
“This year’s just kind of a learning curve.” Mcdoniel said. “Mainly the process of waiting for the orders to ship to us so that we can get those orders filled is the big challenge.”
“It’s a long process and it takes a lot of effort but in the end it’s fun to do and it gives us a good experience.” freshman Avery Kittrell said.
For those looking to support the business, prices range from 12-15 dollars depending on what type of clothing is being purchased. The business class has high expectations for the future, and hopes to provide everyone with the shirts that they desire.
