This week’s news for Rebel Rundown here’s an update on our soccer and basketball teams on the finish of their regular seasons.
Basketball
Both the girls and boys basketball teams are looking to improve in their preparation for the district tournament, which will be held February 5-9. The ninth grade boys basketball team had a successful season. They advanced to their district’s championship game. They hosted Gulfport and fell short to end their season.
Soccer
The boys have the district record of 6-1 and the girls have 4-3. Last Friday night at home the boys and girls played against West Harrison. The boys won 7-0 and the girls won 4-3. They also played against Hancock here at home with the boys winning 6-0, but the girls lost 2-1. They traveled to MGCCC to play against Long Beach. The girls lost with the score of 1-0 and the boys won with the score of 3-0.This year four of our GCHS players were selected to play in the All Star games. The players are Jayden Sones, Jordan Duran, Keira Hawley and Yazmin Humphery. The Mississippi Coast High School Soccer Girls and Boys All-Star Games will be held on February 12, 2024 at the Rock-A-Chaw Stadium in Bay St. Louis.
The soccer teams will be at home both Tuesday and Thursday next week to finish out the regular season. Seniors will be recognized next Tuesday night. The Rebels will host the first round of the state playoffs on February 6 at Gill – Martin Stadium.
