Blood Drive
The Student Council spring blood drive will be held Feb. 22.
Seniors will have a chance to get a red cord to wear at their graduation ceremony if they donate blood three times,
“It has to be three times by your senior year from August to May if they either donate three times or they do a combination of volunteering with blood drives and donating in total of three times they can get red cords to wear at graduation,” Student Council sponsor Ashlyn Stringfellow said.
The blood drive is a way to give back to the community and help those who need it. According to Stringfellow, the blood drive shows students that they can help the greater good of our community by donating blood and signing up,
“Donating blood helps students realize that there is a greater need and there’s something that they can help with,” Stringfellow said.
The goal for the blood drive this year is to have 90 students or more donating blood. As of now the Red Cross has a shortage of O negative blood which is the universal blood type. Due to this, the blood drives plan is to obtain more O negative blood types. If anyone is wanting to be a donor for the blood drive, sign ups are currently available. Students must be 16 or older in order to give. Students under 17 will need a parent’s permission, and students over 17 can sign up without a parent’s permission. There are a total of two blood drives per year that the Student Council hosts.
“If I can give blood, I think anyone can give blood,” Stringfellow said.
