With the large number of majors, students find it difficult to decide on the exact major to choose that fits their career paths.
Students here at GCHS can go to different academies that will help them with deciding on the major they want to go into. There are four academies, Freshman Academy, Human Services and Humanities, C.A.B., and S.T.E.M. Each of the academies helps them with learning skills and shows students what it is like working in that field of learning. Allyson Howard is a concealer and she helps students decide on what major they want to pursue in the future. Usually students have a preference for what major they want to be in. When she helps, she asks them what they are interested in so that it can help think about what’s best for their futures.
“ I kind of just guide them with choosing what they want to do,” Howard said.
There are many different majors but some popular ones here in the south are healthcare, education, work force, engineering and welding. Depending on how settled students are on what they are wanting to do, community colleges are a good starter with working up to what you are wanting to do in the future.
Junior Gabriella Cochran is going to college to go into civil engineering and then wants to start her mission on a journey to help people.
“Different countries want roads and civilisation but need Jesus,” Cochran said.
According to Cochran, the gain from doing and traveling is so that people get to know more about Jesus and help them with their living.
There are many different majors for different people, Freshman Grayson Turner wants to major in Biology.
“ I like to help people,” Turner said.
He would work in the medical field as an emergency medic and help people in need.
“I feel like it would be better for the world,” Turner said.
Tuner mentions that he is a christian and the bible says to help others and that’s what he wants to do.
Howard states that she can help direct students to get2college.org, this will give them an interest inventory. Also there is a major clarity platform here at GCHS that will give them an interesting inventory.
“They can take this inventory and this will help them narrow it down to what career filled they would fit well in through the survey,” Howard said.
Then after a student takes this survey they can open up a career tab that will show them different careers. This will show them the income, how long they have to go to school, the degree that it requires and this will show them the different job characteristics they will need for the job.
