New English II teacher, Joni Albritton, is excited to start off the year at a new school with the staff and students of the high school.
Albritton graduated from Perry Central High School in which she really enjoyed her high school years. She was even named salutatorian of her graduating class.
Albritton has three different degrees. She has an associates, a bachelors in arts and a masters in education all in English. She has been teaching for 15 years now, and she really enjoys it.
“I don’t want to be anywhere else,” Albritton said.
In past years, she has taught at Perry Central (6 years), Stone County(5 years) and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (4 years). When she was at Perry and Stone, she taught middle school, and she has quickly realized that high school is much better.
Albritton’s favorite movie is “The Man in the Moon.” Her favorite subjects are English and history.
She has one big fear as a teacher. “As a teacher my biggest fear is not impacting students as much as I could or not making a difference in the lives of others as much as I could,” Albritton said.
Albritton had two very influential teachers in middle school and high school that made her decide that she wanted to be a teacher. She liked the way they taught, and that is when she decided that she wanted to do something like that.
Albritton loves traveling, old movies and interior decor. Her favorite places she has traveled are Niagara Falls, the Rocky Mountains and Charleston, S.C. She likes movies that were from the ‘40s and ‘50s when it was the old Hollywood and everybody dressed and acted fancy. Albritton likes antiques and valuable items when decorating.
“That is probably what I would be if I wasn’t a teacher,” Albritton said “I would be interior decorating.”
Albritton’s favorite thing to teach in her class is writing. She would like to think that her students find her passionate but serious and calm yet energetic.
Albritton is married with one son and a grandchild. She loves going Jeep riding with her husband with the doors off and the top down.
Albritton is happy to be at the high school and is hoping for a good year.
“I wish everyone a safe and productive year,” Albritton said.
