After teaching at many other schools, biology teacher Shana Buckley starts her journey at the high school.
Buckley is a new addition to the school this year teaching Foundations of Biology in the first semester of the year and Biology I the second semester. Buckley attended East Central High School, then went to college at Mississippi State University and graduated with her bachelors and masters degree. Before teaching here, she taught at L.C. Hatcher, East Central High and Colmer Middle in Pascagoula.
Buckley enjoys crafting, hunting, fishing and most of all family time. She has five kids and one grandchild. A fear of Buckleys is dying before it feels like she has lived her life.
A random fact about Buckley is that she loves Disney World.
“I am obsessed with Disney World. It brings out my inner child, and it is called the happiest place on earth for a reason,”Buckley said.
Buckley also noted she is obsessed with Halloween. She loves the time of the year and has many shirts she will wear during the spooky season.
Buckley stated that her fifth grade teacher Mrs. Fleming inspired her to become a teacher. Fleming was more a mom than a teacher to not only her but to everyone in the class. Buckley said she saw compassion for the first time she can remember in Fleming and inspired her to teach the way she does.
“Love the kid that’s different and love the kid that feels unlovable,” Buckley said.
Buckley said that the high school is very welcoming and makes her feel at home very quickly. She also said that most of the kids treat her like they have known her for their whole life.
