Senior Jacob Fortner uses his horticulture knowledge to go above and beyond.
Fortner is in his fourth year of horticulture, so he has lots of experience to help with everything he can. He works second through fourth block with anything his Horticulture teacher Rick McMullan needs.
McMullan said that Jacob is a really good student and that he has grown up in the classroom and the greenhouse.
“He’s my greenhouse manager. I can trust him to do things in the greenhouse I would normally have to do,” McMullan said.
Even outside of school, he likes to work around the house and fix things. His motivation to help everywhere is so that he can make other people want to do the same.
“I want to just encourage people to step up and take leadership,” Fortner said.
Some of Fortner’s favorite things about helping with horticulture is learning about the different plants and how to take care of them. His main interest in horticulture is the plants. He enjoys going outside and doing hands-on activities.
Fortner works hard so that he can encourage others to do the same. He goes above and beyond to be a good influence and a leader.

Ariel Mcdaniel, Staff Reporter
Freshman, Ariel Mcdaniel is enjoying her first year on staff! She loves playing her guitar and hanging out with her friends. Ariel likes family time and playing music with her dad. She prefers to listen to the classic country music rather than the newer music that is produced. She does not meet a stranger. Ariel can be friends with anyone she meets. In her spare time, Ariel likes to find a cozy spot and read. At home, she likes to play with her little sister. One thing Ariel looks forward to is going to Destin every year for the week of Independence Day. She is very excited to see what all happens throughout her journalism journey.
