As glittering gowns and sharp tuxedos take the dance floor, prom night becomes more than just a high school dance- it is a rite of passage.
With the help of teacher Stephanie Long the prom will be going to a different location this year. The Junior/Senior prom will be held at Pelican Landing in Moss Point on March 22 from 7-11 p.m.
“I had asked Mrs. Long for some advice last year because it was very hard to find a venue that wanted to host a prom, and she had mentioned that East Central has their prom there every year,” junior class sponsor Ashlyn Stringfellow said.
Stringfellow states that a pro about using this venue is that it is not too far.
Stingfellow and fellow class sponsor Marlana Broadhead looked at many different calendars in order to pick the date.
“It was more so along with when the venue was available and around playoff schedules and sports schedules to make sure the majority of students will be able to make it,” Broadhead said.
The theme for prom is Garden of Glamour. The prom committee had decided what they wanted and that theme fit.
“Our prom committee voted and they wanted to do a theme that had a lot of greenery and lights and that theme matched more than any other one they could have picked,” Stringfellow said.
The DJ for the prom will be DJ ICY Barnes. He DJed last year’s prom in Hattiesburg.
There will be a few different trucks at the prom venue for the students to enjoy including: a popsicle truck, Jefe Paletes, and a coffee truck, Traveling Tom’s coffee truck.
Included in all these fun prom activities will be an inflatable photo booth.
Prom tickets will be $50 for seniors and $65 for all other high school grades. Tickets will be on sale from Feb. 14-28.
Prom review is the kick-off to all prom festivities. Prom Review was held earlier today in the gym during the pep rally schedule. Students paid $2 to attend.
Prom Review is a time where students put on dresses or tuxedos and show others in a fashion show fundraiser. Maples’ Outfitters provide tuxes for the guys to wear in order to market the tuxedos for rent or sale. On the other hand, the girls supply their own dresses and show them off to give examples of what to wear to prom and the “dress code,” There were 23 participants.
As students begin to prepare for prom Broadhead has a piece of advice.
“Keep it classy,” Broadhead said.
