A new era begins for the George County High School football team as school administration is looking to a familiar face to lead the Rebels next year.
While Kelley Causey was previously an assistant coach, here he brings his many years of experience and a fresh vision. Causey has coached for 31 years and started out as an assistant while in college at Arkansas University, then moved on to be a high school coach at Biloxi, St. Martin, Mary G Montgomery, Pass Christian, Kosciusko, Cleveland and Grenada. He also worked as a coach at the University of North Alabama.
His vision for the program is to make the young men strive to be great dads, friends, citizens and of course, the best football players that they can be. Causey is really hopeful for this upcoming season and looks for the best qualities of his players. He looks for discipline in his players, as well as hard work ethic and accountability. He is poised to inspire his players and elevate the team’s performance on and off the field. To develop the team as a whole he plans to do team building projects involved in the community. He also is prepared to make football fun for the boys while working hard.
Causey believes that his work ethic and knowledge of the game will help lead the players and the coaches. Causey said that the team is good about motivating each other.
“We motivate each other by becoming a family and growing together and having the best interest of each other,” Causey said.
Causey has hired new assistant coaches for the team. Alonzo Lawrance is returning, George County graduate Ethan Eubanks is coming from Clinton High School and Kenny Burns is coming back from Green County.
“I am bringing him back to the real GC,” Causey said.
He is working to build the community to love and support the football team.
“I want to stress to the community that they are the heartbeat of our program.
Causey is extremely excited to take over the team.
“Even though I did not graduate from here, my dad did in 61 and I want to make him proud of his alma mater,”Causey said.
