New teacher Ethan Eubanks has made his journey back to George County after teaching for 12 years and coaching football for 13 at Clinton High School in Clinton, Miss..
Eubanks is an alumnus of George County High School and graduated in 2009, but decided to go away from home and experience new things. He went to Mississippi College and began coaching and teaching there. He is currently teaching Dual Enrollment College and Career Readiness and Drug Education. Eubanks got into coaching due to his passion for the game, which he has been playing since he was eight years old. Coaching was not what he initially wanted to do. In fact, he initially started working towards another career but was not happy with what he was doing.
“I just kept feeling like there was something else I needed to do with my life,” Eubanks said.
After coming back home, he decided he wanted to continue teaching and coaching at the school he came from.
“Every opportunity from there was just a little bit easier, like God opened up more opportunities as I pursued that compared to the other I had chosen,” he said.
Eubanks feels that coming home is awesome and believes, “ There’s no place like home.”
He also believes that the culture here is much more different than it was at Clinton.
“ It’s really a community where people care about their young people…the atmosphere the community brings to that ball field and even in Walmart and town and at church, you have people excited about what’s going on,” he said.
Although it was a tough decision for him to leave Clinton and was quite an adjustment for his wife and son, he believes it is awesome to be able to reconnect with the people he grew up with.
In addition to Eubanks coming back to the high school, he is now working alongside his mom, English teacher Teresa Eubanks, who has been a great support system for him.
“She’s been a great supporter, helping me get into the swing of things here,” he said.
Although he is coworkers with his mom, they keep it separate.
“She’s just a colleague here and at home, she’s mom,” Eubanks said.
As for goals, Eubanks wants to help his students in his classroom grasp the content that he is teaching, and help make the curriculum match the needs of his students.
As for football, he is head coach of the ninth grade team and wants to have a very successful season.
“Every time I step on a field, I want to win, and I know my guys want to win, and so we want to have a successful season there,” he said.
He wants to prepare his team to be varsity football players.
In his free time, Eubanks enjoys going to the beach and spending time with his family.
“Just being with my family. If I could pick any place to do it, it would be at the beach ,” he said.
Lastly, Eubanks is excited to be back home.
