With social media a growing popularity among young people, some GCHS students have decided to join in on the fun of content creation and post videos of their own.
Many people enjoy watching videos of all kinds on YouTube, but not coming up with their own content. A group of George County boys have decided to take on the challenge of creating videos and growing a channel. Naming the channel “TheGCBoys” they find unique and funny ideas from across the platform and put their own spin on it.
The idea started when Senior J.T. Mallette wanted a way to save memories from senior year and have things to look back at.
“It’s only gonna be a couple of years, and I won’t have memories with the boys,” Mallette said.
After talking with seniors Carson Pierce, Branden Gautier, Brody Nichols, Landon Parkin and Sam Rogers, they created their channel and have already uploaded a few videos. These videos include a Goodwill challenge, floating the Escatawpa River and going to the local dump.
The ideas for the content are discussed in a group chat among the members, then approved by Mallette before being planned out and filmed. Mallette spends around one week editing and putting together the video before uploading it to their channel.
The group has gained a following on social media, with 323 subscribers, a number that is continuing to rise. They have 1,454 views between the three videos they’ve posted so far, with the local dump video having the most at 688.
Upcoming videos the group plans to make include visiting Topgolf and Spirit Halloween, having a pumpkin carving contest and visiting a haunted maze.
The group gets good feedback from their peers, and many of them are eager for the next video to be uploaded and encourage more content.
They are also coming out with their own line of merchandise and will feature a limited edition item with only 10 available. This merchandise will feature a GC Boys logo and biblical scripture, including the verse John 10:10. They are also giving away a $50 Topgolf gift card. A catchphrase for theGCBoys is still in the making.
In the end, the channel is a way for this group of friends to store their memories from high school and remember the years they enjoyed together.
“Enjoy your time, you’re never going to be able to get this back,” Mallette said.
