School’s in session, and so is business.
Within George County High School, some students have shown their creativity with small businesses. Several students have started painting banners. According to senior Sydney Pittman, creator of “Banner Babe,” it is really exciting. “I’ve loved painting since I was little, a friend asked me to paint a banner for her and I’ve been creating them ever since” Pittman said.
Different students start businesses for different reasons. According to sophomore Dayla Guin, she started painting banners for herself. “I started painting banners for fun, then I decided to start selling them,” she said.
Within businesses, there can be some difficulties. According to senior Halleigh Mixon, creator of “Pinned by Hal,” she has experienced some issues with designing pins.
“It is difficult to get my designs to look like my reference,” Mixon said. Everyone faces different challenges with their business. “A problem for me is when orders come in just a few days before the event,” Pittman said.
Although small businesses can bring issues, they can be a lot of fun for students.
“I love how I get to be creative with my designs,” Guin said.
Small businesses allow students to show their creative sides while having fun. “I love getting to see a piece of my work at different events,” Pittman said.
Managing small businesses while maintaining school activities can be a struggle, according to Halleigh Mixon. She prioritizes her free time. “I try to get caught up on businesses during my free time during school and at home,” Mixon said.
Although she has these struggles, she also finds amusement in her businesses.
“I love getting to be artistic, and creative, I love seeing everyone’s pins, ”Mixon said.
