This year the Rebels have moved up to the Class 5A division, Players and coaches as a whole are excited about their new classification. With their 5A classification the Rebels have an overall record of 3-3.

The latest victory for the Rebels was last Friday night against the West Harrison Hurricanes. The team was off to a slow start during the first half, missing two field goals, but they pulled through to finish with a win of 49-21.

As of the Guatier game, the Rebels won with a score of 43-27.

“Two things you want to do as a coach is to start the season off with a win and then start the region off with a win,” head coach James Ray said.

Some of the star players are senior Ashton Howell with 243 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, senior Marquez Dortch with 13 catches on 20 targets, 324 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns and senior Ashton Hollins with 747 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns.

George County also took home a win at the Battle of the Bell game against Greene County with a score of 42-7.

“It means a lot to the community and to my coaches. I pride myself on not letting my coaches down,” Hollins said.

The team is currently 2-0 in the district and they are wanting to keep their momentum as the season continues.

“Our plan going forward is we have to continue to get better to work hard and prepare every game like we’re playing Greene County or Gautier and not look past opponents so we can finish the season off right,” Ray said.

The Rebels will travel to Vancleave this Friday to take on the Bulldogs in the division game. The kickoff is at 7pm.
