These days more than ever saving the environment has been a top priority for many people.

Each day more than 60 million plastic bottles end up in landfills. This resulted in just last year the estimated amount of plastic that ended up in landfills was 22 billion. This does not include the plastic found in our world’s magnificent oceans. As of the end of 2022 there was estimated to be  75 to 199  million tons of plastic polluting our oceans.

Every year 100 million marine animals die from plastic polluting our oceans. This is just from plastic alone. Sea lions are the number one marine animal species endangered due to polluted waters. There are currently only five species left when there used to be seven.

With all these disastrous effects brought upon our environment, corporations have begun to change and rework their products to help our environment. But some consumers have been concerned about whether these products meet the standard that non-environment friendly products meet.

The top concern for most people is how well the products hold up and how well they accomplish their designated job, while other people’s concerns are how much does that specific product help the environment. Although switching products to environment friendly ones can be a little more pricey, it is absolutely worth the  money for these simple reasons.

Eco-friendly products help lower our world’s carbon footprint. Household energy, food consumption and transportation are the main contributors to a carbon footprint, leading to human-induced climate change, this resulting in acidic rain. Acidic rain is extremely harmful to our environment, as it leaches aluminum into our soil. Aluminum killing plants and being harmful to our animals as well. Although we have to have a carbon footprint for our plants to survive, when our carbon footprint becomes too big, that is when it becomes a problem.

Eco friendly products not only help reduce our carbon footprint but they are also much safer than the average product. Studies show that regular products are often made with harmful chemicals that can be bad for our wellbeing. One example of this is shown in non-organic cotton clothing. Companies hire farmers that use pesticides on their cotton to help to grow. Some clothing manufactures will even use heavy metals when dying the fabric and applying finishing pieces. These harmful ingredients can last in the fabric long after it’s been manufactured and washed.

With our world in the condition it is in we need to take better care of the planet we live on. We can start this by switching our detrimental ways of living into cleaner and more efficient ways to help our environment and our world we live in.
