New teacher Danny Smith has devoted 33 years to his teaching career.
Smith is a lover of outdoor activities, such as camping, hunting, fishing, football and much more. He is also a big Alabama Crimson Tide fan.
Smith graduated from Shaw High School in 1985. He then went to college at South Alabama and got his undergraduate degree. Afterwards he got his graduate degree from Alabama State University. Smith wants his students to become productive in his class, and this was one of his reasons he wanted to become a teacher. He started off teaching P.E. for an elementary school in Alabama then moved on to teaching P.E. for high school students as well as health.
After retiring in Alabama, Smith had worked at a private school. The opportunity to teach in Mississippi then came up, and he decided he wanted a change. He continues to teach P.E. and now teaches College and Career Readiness classes. Even though this is his first year teaching at a new school in a different state Smith loves teaching his new students,
“I just love the kids here,” Smith said.
Watching his students succeed is Smith’s favorite part of teaching,
“When these kids leave my class, hopefully they can come back 10 years later and thank me for helping them to be a better person inside and outside of the classroom,” Smith said, “and I hope I can make a difference in somebody’s life here in a very positive way.”
