GCHS soccer has kicked off their soccer season this past week and is continuing to work their hardest.
The Lady Rebels started their 2024-25 season at the Gulfport High School Varsity Jamboree Oct. 26. They first played against OLA, and the results were 0-0 and lost against Ocean Springs 1-3. Monday they played against Gulfport and finished the night 1-1 with senior Presley Howell scoring their goal.
The boys soccer team also started their season Oct. 26 by playing Bay High School and tieing 2-2 and then winning 1-0 against Pass Christian. Monday night they ended up with the score 1-2 against Gulfport with junior Sam Rogers scoring for them.
During practice the team is put in situations that make them work better together so they can continue to do well and build on to their success that they had last year. The girl’s soccer team is working hard to win the South State like they did last year.
“We are building on the previous years and us winning the south state last year”, the girls head soccer coach, Brittain Dean, said.
The teams are looking forward to doing everything they can to be the best they can.
“Just getting started taking the steps necessary to maximize opportunities,” coach Dean said when talking about what they are looking forward to doing further in the season.
For the girl’s soccer team a typical practice seems to look like a quick roll out and then some strengthening and conditioning, some situational plays, analyzing opponents and some defensive along with offensive tactics. After winning South State, they are ready to grow and have fun along with being successful.
“I look forward to growing as a younger team,” junior Lani McDoniel said.
Senior Presley Howell is looking forward to hopefully winning the championship this season.
The boys soccer team’s typical practice looks like rolling out and then heading to the field and going through their drills. When practicing they go through different drills that mock situations that could happen when they are at a game and the team sees how they would assess the situation.
Senior Gavin Knowles is excited to spend his last year playing soccer at the HS with most of his friends.
“It is my senior year so bonding with the team and hanging out with the majority of my friends will hopefully win state,” Knowles said.
Coach Dean and Head boys Coach Tyler Williams continue to coach the team to work to the best of their abilities.
The Rebels play at East Central on Tuesday next week and Thursday at St. Martin. Girls play at 5:30 and boys play at 7:30. Stay tuned to see the Rebels progress.
