Math teacher Ronald Henderson, known for his dedication of teaching his students and motivating them to do the best they can, has won the National Society of High School scholar Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award.
The award is given to outstanding models, passionate educators and educators who have had an impact on someone’s life. The award comes from a program known as National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
The program began awarding teachers in 2007. The NSHSS hopes to motivate educators to change their students’ lives in and out of the classroom.
Henderson has a Master’s degree in math education. He has been teaching for 15 years with the last two years at the high school.
His inspiring methods and commitment to education have made a lasting impact on his students.
Henderson was nominated by his former Algebra I Sophomore Faith Travers. Travers stated that the reason she nominated him was because he helped her understand what she was learning and he made it something fun to learn and her new favorite subject.
“ He is a very friendly person and really shows that he cares for our education and made math something that I can enjoy and understand.” Travers said
Henderson is happy and uplifted to be recognized by his students and staff. He feels as if he has been able to have an effect on someone’s life.
“ I will continue to do the thing I was doing that got me the achievement in the first place to encourage the students and try to get them working, letting them get better at what they do, more confident,” Henderson said.
