With all of the presents, lights and parties consuming our attention around the Christmas season, we often lose focus of the true meaning of Christmas.
Christmas has become more and more centered around worldly ideas and has caused us to slowly forget the real reason we celebrate. We have gotten so consumed with buying presents and focusing on Christmas traditions that we put Jesus on the back burner. We often overlook that Christmas all happens because of the birth of our Savior and take for granted everything He has done for us. It makes us ask ourselves this question: Is Christ still in Christmas?
It is easy to lose sight of the reason for the season and not give the glory to Him, but ultimately, without Him we would not have Christmas to celebrate. In the end, it is His birthday and He deserves just as much celebration as we have for ourselves when our birthdays come around.
On top of many believers leaving Christ out of Christmas, there are a lot of unbelievers who have never heard the Christmas story. How are they supposed to understand the peace and joy we feel around Christmas if they do not know the story? If we do not share the word with unbelievers around the Christmas season, then they will not know what we are really celebrating this time of year.
We can not just celebrate with parades and parties without sharing the meaning of Christmas. It is our job to share our everlasting joy with them and help them truly understand how wonderful the birth of our Savior is. Instead of focusing so much on what you are getting or what material items you are longing for this year, focus on the gift you could give someone by sharing the word of God.
If God loves us so much that he sent his one and only Son into the world to live a perfect life and die for us, then why would we ignore him around the holidays? It is easy to do without even realizing it, but we have to stop and reflect on ourselves. Maybe including our Lord around the holidays could just be as simple as listening to Christian Christmas music or setting up a nativity scene to remind us of the reason we have Christmas. You can even read the Christmas story in the Bible to truly understand just how much deeper the meaning of Christmas is. Just these little things show us the hope He brings us and encourages us to share the Good News.
So, as you take the time to celebrate the Christmas season and the joy that comes with it, take a few moments to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday and remind yourself: Jesus is the reason for the season.
