For about three years Chartwells has brought positive opinions and changes for cafeteria staff and more.
Chartwells, the company that manages the cafeteria, has brought many new lunch items for students and staff to choose from.
“I’ve noticed that students like this new menu better,” cafeteria manager Ashley Tanner said.
Besides new food items, having a new food management has brought new changes into the cafeteria. The cafeteria now has separate lines for each menu item for students and staff to choose from.
Though the new management has brought new and efficient equipment for the school, it also comes with challenges for the cafeteria staff.
The staff finds it the most important to make sure there is enough food to feed every student for both breakfast and lunch.
“We are limited on staff, so we try to make sure we have enough food in time to feed all students,” Tanner said.
Another challenge that has occurred for the staff is preparing the meals. “I wish people knew the prep that we do,” said Tanner. The prepping such as chopping vegetables, separating and cooking meat and assembling the food onto the warmer tables takes time.
Aside from the changes and preparations that take place in the cafeteria, there is more to it than just feeding the school.
The cafeteria staff also participates in a competition with other schools in the district. These competitions judge meals such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, even simpler meals like an everyday hamburger. These competitions allow the schools to compare their meals, as well as have fun.
