Tag- Callahan’s Boxing

Math teacher Danae Callahan teaches math during the school day, but also teaches boxing in her free time.
She has been teaching boxing for two years. Callahan’s passion for boxing started when she began taking lessons at 10 years old. Due to not being able to compete anymore, she decided to start teaching the sport.
Boxing allows students to learn a lot, not just physical skills but as well as personal benefits. Students learn how to be confident and stand up for themselves but also learn how to defend themselves when needed.
Boxing is also a great way to stay in shape and be active, “Even the little things we do are great to keep us in shape, we do a lot of cardio,” Callahan said.
For Callahan, teaching boxing can have some similarities and differences with her math class. Both classes require time and patience. Students might struggle; but with help, they can evolve and become better, while boxing requires more hands-on teaching than math class.
“For me, my personality is the same for both activities, my teaching methods don’t change,” Callahan said.
Boxing can be very helpful in some students’ lives, from learning how to defend themselves to just being able to stay fit.
“I hope my students can take away being confident, and know how to stand up for themselves”, said Callahan.
